Welcome to Reckless Penny

Hi. I’m Rowan.

I grew up like most people, in a middle class family.  Mom and Dad both worked, so the kids had to step up and help around the house.  A lot of things were discussed when I was growing up, morals, how to be a good person, what’s expected in different social settings and most importantly, how to conduct myself so that I would be a good human being.

What wasn’t discussed was money.  Finances, bills, spending and other forms of handling money weren’t discussed.  I was always told to save 10% of my paycheck each week and “live on the rest”.  That if I did this, I would never be short of money.  The most I learned about budgets and planning around money happened in a Social Studies class I had in Junior High that paired me up with another student to pretend we were married, had kids and jobs and how to handle our finances around that.

What I should have learned from parents is what I want to help others with.  Learning the ins and outs of budgeting, both the practical budgeting of what is currently happening to your finances and what could be for the future.  It’s more than just getting a better paying job so that you have more money to spend.  It’s understanding strategic finances and how to be in control of your money.

We all have dreams, some have really big dreams and others have smaller dreams.  We all want something out of this life, something that brings out our creative side and brings us joy.  Someone once told me “If you do what you love for a living, you’ll never work a day in your life”.  That is great advice, however it still doesn’t come close to giving me an idea of how to do this.

I’ve seen all the get rich quick schemes out there.  Most of them are nothing more than “multi-level marketing” schemes.  I teach you how to sell my class to others so that you make a commission on it.  My class is really nothing more than teaching you how to sell my class to others so that you can make a commission on it.  Seriously.  There isn’t anything of true value.  It’s not a toaster that will help me make breakfast or an actual idea to help me build my business.  It’s nothing more than a bunch of people selling to a bunch of people and making money on it.  How does that provide a long term income?

First and foremost, it doesn’t matter how much money you have.  You will be able to take the ideas and strategies that I put forth and use them immediately.  Free of charge.  I want to explore all areas of finances, including budgeting, saving, making your money work for you no matter how much you have.  My sole purpose with this blog is to make money stop being a four letter word and have it be what it should be, a resource that funds your way of life.
